Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Civils
Location: Blyth, Northumberland
We are pleased to be assisting our client, a leading Irish main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, high-value construction and civil engineering projects, in their search for the perfect candidate to join their team.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their Blyth team, looking to build a career in civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
About the work
Their civils and infrastructure portfolio spans major, high-value schemes - including large-scale hyperscale data centre campus developments - the kind of projects that push technical and commercial complexity to the limit. On these programmes, investment can run into the billions, campus footprints can extend across 100+ hectares, and works involve multiple large-scale buildings delivered in phases. This is the calibre of project you'll gain experience on, working alongside an experienced commercial team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the team in preparing monthly, interim, and final valuations, applications for payment, and reconciliations of valuations and costs for contracts, sub-contractors, specialists, and suppliers
- Assist in gathering and providing accurate information to support regular review of cash flow and contract positions
- Support the Procurement Manager and Quantity Surveyors in the placing of sub-contracts, where required
- Assist with the examination of contract documents and help highlight any anomalies
- Support the team in preparing take-offs in advance of requirements from the Estimating, Procurement, and Planning departments
- Assist in the preparation of contract final accounts for completed sections of works, including adjustments
- Help record details involving contractual delays
- Work closely with, and learn from, Quantity Surveyors and Senior Surveyors on site and in the office
Requirements
- 0-3 years' experience, ideally including a placement or internship with a main contractor
- A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or working towards one)
- Interest or exposure to construction/civil engineering/infrastructure projects
- Working towards chartership with the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS) or equivalent (support provided)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Good IT skills
