Planner - Highways Maintenance (Slough)

Join our team delivering vital highways maintenance projects across Slough. We're looking for an experienced Planner to take ownership of programme management, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

Working closely with Project Managers and delivery teams, you'll develop and maintain robust construction programmes, analyse critical paths, manage change under NEC contracts, and identify opportunities to improve delivery performance. Your expertise will help shape project strategy, challenge assumptions, and drive successful outcomes.

What You'll Be DoingDeveloping and managing project programmes from design through to handover.Monitoring progress, analysing critical paths, and reporting performance.Supporting project teams with short-term planning and recovery strategies.Assessing programme impacts of change and compensation events.Integrating subcontractor programmes into the overall project plan.Producing reports, forecasts, "what-if" scenarios, and performance analysis.Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and local authorities.What We're Looking ForExperience within highways, civil engineering, or construction projects.Strong planning expertise using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.Good understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and change management.Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).Ideally 5+ years' experience in a dedicated planning role.Relevant construction/civil engineering qualifications and CSCS card (desirable).

Key Responsibilities

Supervise daily site operations including kerb, footway, surfacing and drainage works on a live cycleway schemeManage operatives, gangers and subcontractors on siteEnsure compliance with RAMS, permits and site-specific method statementsCarry out daily briefings, inductions and toolbox talksMonitor quality through ITPs, snagging and non-conformance managementLiaise with site management, client representatives and other trades/utilities sharing the live highway environmentManage permits to dig/work in line with NRSWA requirementsTrack progress against programme and report to Site Manager

The Role

We're looking for a capable Site Engineer with strong CAD and setting out skills to join the delivery team on site. You'll work closely with the Section Engineer and project management team, taking responsibility for day-to-day engineering on your section of works.

Key Responsibilities

Setting out works using total station, GPS/GNSS, and levels - including kerb lines, drainage falls, footway/cycleway alignments and tie-insInterpreting and working from CAD drawings (AutoCAD/Civil 3D) to produce set-ting out data and check as-built positionsPreparing and checking method statements, ITPs, and inspection recordsRaising and managing RFIs where design clarification is neededCarrying out dimensional checks and recording as-built surveysLiaising with subcontractors, site supervisors, and the client's RE teamSupporting the wider engineering team with quality documentation and site records

Requirements

Proven site engineering experience on highways, active travel, or civil infrastructure schemesStrong setting out capability - total station, GNSS, digital levelsConfident working with CAD drawings; ability to extract and use setting out data (AutoCAD/Civil 3D advantageous)Familiarity with ITP and NCR processesHNC/HND or degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)CSCS card (Gold/Blue minimum)Full UK driving licence

We are seeking a Project Planner to join our client's team on a Highways Maintenance scheme office on a freelance basis on a long term contract based out of their Slough project office.

Responsibilities:
Creating weekly reports and 'look ahead' forecasts.
Submit NEC-compliant programmes for acceptance
Control, analysis, maintain and recovery-plan activities, through all stages of the Project Life Cycle.
Plan and schedule major infrastructure, new build, and refurbishment projects

Requirements:
Proven experience in project planning/scheduling on highways maintenance projects
Extensive experience using in planning software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project and Asta Powerproject
Previous working experience for Tier One/ Two Civil Engineering firms is highly desirable
