We're assisting our client who is a powerhouse in the rail sector with a track record spanning major schemes across the UK and Europe on their search for an Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a Major Rail Framework at their Hatfield Business Park office. This is a permanent role offering real career progression within a business that's only going from strength to strength.

What you'll be doing:

Working closely alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors, supporting the commercial and contractual delivery of multiple schemes at various stages of the project lifecycle.Proactively identifying risks and opportunities within contracts, helping protect margin and drive value.Building strong, lasting relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal project teams to keep delivery on time and on budget.Getting hands-on exposure to the commercial side of large-scale rail infrastructure work - ideal for someone looking to fast-track their QS career.

What we're looking for:

Experience within Infrastructure , Rail and/or Civil Engineering.A relevant qualification in Quantity SurveyingRail sector experience is advantageous, but not essential - full support and mentoring will be provided.Confident communicator, comfortable managing subcontractors, suppliers, and their expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Support the commercial management and delivery of earthworks packages within the SRE programmeManage subcontract procurement, letting and administration in line with NEC contract requirementsPrepare and maintain accurate cost reports, forecasts and cash flow projectionsAssess, negotiate and agree subcontractor interim valuations and final accountsIdentify and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout project lifecyclePrepare and submit compensation event notifications and assessmentsCollaborate with project and site teams to ensure commercial awareness across the delivery teamContribute to monthly CVR preparation and reporting to senior managementEnsure compliance with Network Rail standards, client requirements and internal governance processesBuild and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders

About You

We are looking for a proactive and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with experience in civils and infrastructure. The following skills and experience are required or desirable:

Experience as a Quantity Surveyor on civil engineering or infrastructure projectsStrong understanding of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 preferred)Experience in subcontract management and cost reportingStrong analytical and negotiation skillsAbility to build relationships across multidisciplinary teamsExperience within rail, earthworks or geotechnical projects (desirable)Knowledge of Network Rail standards and processes (desirable)Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial ManagementProgressing towards or already achieved RICS/ICES chartership

About the Role

You'll bring strong pre and post-contract management and procurement experience within the UK rail sector, supporting the design team through the early stages of a major infrastructure project. Candidates with a Rail, Infrastructure, Highways, Construction, Utilities or Energy background are encouraged to apply; MEP experience is beneficial but not essential.
