Site Engineer, Contract, Inside IR35

We're recruiting on behalf of a leading infrastructure contractor for an experienced Site Engineer to join a major delivery team in Banbury on a contract basis.

This is a great opportunity for a site engineer with HS2 experience to step into an established team and take ownership of a defined package of works from day one.

What you'll bring:

Previous HS2 project experience (recent experience highly advantageous)Proven experience preparing RAMS, TBS, and ITPsStrong working knowledge of Excel and AutoCAD2-3+ years of relevant site engineering experience, ideally with bridges/structuresSolid understanding of quality assurance processes and site documentationConfidence working independently and taking ownership of your area of the worksStrong communication skills, comfortable liaising with subcontractors and site teamsA proactive, solutions-focused mindset - someone who gets stuck in rather than waiting to be toldThe ability to integrate quickly into an existing delivery team and add value from day one

The role:

You'll be working as part of a structured delivery team on a live infrastructure scheme, with real responsibility and autonomy over your section of the works.

HS2 is one of the most ambitious construction projects Europe has seen in a generation and our client, a top-tier main contractor, needs a commercially sharp Senior Quantity Surveyor (or Commercial Manager, for the right person) to help deliver it.

You'll sit at the heart of the commercial team, working hand-in-hand with operations to protect margins, manage risk, and secure every pound of contractual entitlement on a scheme with national significance. Strong performers with the right experience will have a clear route to step up into a Commercial Manager role.

What You'll Be Doing

Championing a safety-first mindset across a high-profile siteKeeping the project on the right side of legal, contractual, and company standardsReading the contract inside out - spotting risk and opportunity before they become problemsBuilding a watertight paper trail to back every entitlementDriving applications for payment and variations through to approvalOwning subcontract accounts from appointment to final accountDelivering commercial reporting that gives leadership real visibilityLeading final account negotiations directly with the client(CM-level) Taking the reins on commercial strategy and leading the wider team

What You'll Bring
