Freelance HSE Professional | Data Centres & Critical InfrastructureKey ResponsibilitiesLead and promote a proactive health, safety, and environmental culture across the project.Ensure compliance with local legislation, client requirements, and project HSE management systems.Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.Review, approve, and monitor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).Oversee Permit-to-Work systems including Hot Works, Confined Space Entry, Excavation, Energisation, and Working at Height permits.Monitor and support structural steel erection activities, ensuring safe sequencing, stability, lifting operations, and temporary works controls.Verify lifting plans and supervise high-risk lifting operations involving mobile cranes, tower cranes, MEWPs, telehandlers, and specialist lifting equipment.Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and environmental events.Produce detailed incident reports and drive corrective and preventative actions through to completion.Facilitate daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and induction programmes.Conduct contractor and subcontractor HSE evaluations and performance reviews.Monitor workforce compliance relating to PPE, permits, training, certifications, and site rules.Support Construction Management teams in planning and executing high-risk activities safely.Participate in design reviews and constructability discussions to eliminate hazards before work begins.Monitor work at height activities, scaffold inspections, edge protection, rescue plans, and fall arrest systems.Review excavation, temporary works, and underground services protection controls.Ensure emergency response and incident management plans are maintained, communicated, and tested.Maintain accurate HSE documentation, reports, statistics, leading indicators, and KPI tracking.Attend client, contractor, and project coordination meetings as the HSE representative.Conduct environmental inspections covering waste management, pollution prevention, spill response, noise, dust, and sustainability requirements.Drive close-out of observations, non-conformances, audits, and corrective actions.Support commissioning and energisation activities ensuring all life-safety and permit controls are properly implemented.Provide HSE mentorship and guidance to supervisors, engineers, subcontractors, and project leadership teams.Required ExperiencePreferred QualificationsNEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH DiplomaNVQ Level 5/6 Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)IOSH Managing Safely / GradIOSH / CMIOSHRelevant Working at Height, Temporary Works, and Incident Investigation certificationsExperience on Hyperscale Data Centre projects is highly desirableIdeal BackgroundData CentresHyperscale CampusesCritical InfrastructurePower & Energy FacilitiesIndustrial PlantsPharmaceutical FacilitiesLarge-Scale Structural Steel Construction ProjectsWhat's On Offer Read less

Overview

A leading contractor is looking for an experienced HSE Manager to support the delivery of a major data centre project in Stockholm, Sweden.

This is a key role focused on Health, Safety & Environmental management across a large-scale electrical package, working within a fast-paced, mission-critical construction environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving HSE standards across site activities, ensuring compliance with Swedish legislation and project requirements, and working closely with the client, main contractor, electrical contractors, and wider project teams to deliver the project safely and efficiently.
