Our client, a specialist sprinkler and fire protection installation contractor, is looking for a Site Manager to lead the installation of sprinkler and fire protection systems on a data center project in Narvik, Norway.
Contract:
- Title: Site Manager
- Location: Narvik, Norway
- Working arrangement: Fully on site, with private accommodation and meals provided
- Contract: 12 months (with potential to work permanently after the initial 12 months)
- Rate: Negotiable (based on experience)
- Mobilisation: ASAP
Overview:
Our client is delivering the sprinkler and fire protection installation package on a major data center project in Northern Norway. The Site Manager will lead a team of 25 installation technicians and be the client's main point of contact with the general contractor on site. You will deliver the package on time, within budget and to the quality required by the client, the general contractor and the end user. The role suits an experienced site leader from fire protection or mechanical installation who has worked on data centers or other mission-critical projects and is comfortable working under a general contractor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, plan and allocate work for a team of 25 sprinkler and fire protection installation technicians across the site.
- Act as the key interface with the general contractor, attending coordination, progress and interface meetings and representing the client on site.
- Deliver the installation to programme, producing short-term look-ahead plans and tracking progress against milestones.
- Control the package against budget: monitor labour productivity, materials usage and variations, and report cost and progress to project management.
- Oversee installation quality: carry out inspections, check the work against drawings, specifications and standards, and close out snags and non-conformances.
- Coordinate the installation of sprinkler mains, distribution pipework, valve sets, pump rooms and associated fire protection systems with other trades, particularly electrical, HVAC and the structure.
- Manage pressure testing, flushing and documentation, and support commissioning and handover, including test records and as-built information.
- Enforce site safety: review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), run toolbox talks, and ensure permit to work (PTW) and site rules are followed.
- Manage materials planning, deliveries and site logistics so installation runs without interruption.
- Report site progress, risks, delays and quality issues to the project manager and the general contractor.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a site management or supervisory role on sprinkler, fire protection or mechanical installation projects.
- Minimum 2 years' experience on data center or mission-critical projects.
- Proven experience leading installation teams of 20 or more technicians.
- Strong knowledge of sprinkler systems and standards, including NS-EN 12845. Experience with NFPA 13 or FM Global requirements is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Norwegian building regulations (TEK17), FG rules and Nordic HSE requirements.
- Experience working under general contractors on large Nordic construction projects.
- Track record of delivering installation packages on time and within budget, with strong cost and progress control.
- Experience with quality management, inspection and test plans (ITPs), pressure testing, and handover documentation.
- Valid safety training appropriate to Norwegian construction sites.
- Fluent English, written and spoken. Norwegian is advantageous.
Key Skills:
- Site leadership and work planning for large installation teams, with daily task allocation and productivity tracking.
- Technical knowledge of sprinkler systems: wet, dry, pre-action and deluge systems, valve sets, pump rooms, mains and distribution pipework.
- Understanding of fire protection systems on data centers, including gas suppression, water mist, detection interfaces and firestopping of service penetrations.
- Reading and checking installation drawings, isometrics and specifications, and resolving clashes with other trades.
- Programme management: look-ahead planning, milestone tracking and recovery planning when installation falls behind.
- Cost control: tracking labour hours, materials and variations against the package budget.
- Quality control: inspections, ITPs, snag and NCR close-out, and installation checked to NS-EN 12845 and project specifications.
- Pressure testing, flushing and test documentation, plus support for commissioning and handover.
- Coordination with the general contractor and other trades in interface meetings, through RFIs and when sequencing work in congested areas.
- HSE leadership: RAMS review, toolbox talks, permit to work, lifting operations and safe working at height.
- Materials and logistics planning for remote sites, including delivery scheduling and site storage.
- Clear reporting and communication with project management, the general contractor and the end client.
