About the Opportunity
Our client is a leading construction contractor with a long-standing presence on a major UK transport hub, delivering complex infrastructure projects to high standards of quality, safety and environmental performance. Working under a long-term framework, they deliver design and build projects across both airside and landside areas, including pavement rehabilitation, critical utilities replacement and the redevelopment of operational areas. The programme is ongoing, with further major resurfacing works in planning. Work is carefully planned around critical live assets, with close engagement across a wide range of stakeholders.
The Role
You will manage a section of the construction works, ensuring successful delivery in line with client requirements, programme objectives and business targets, while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, quality, environmental compliance and cost control. Overseeing multiple work packages, you will work closely with the commercial team, site engineers, surveyors and wider stakeholders to deliver safely, efficiently and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
Lead by example in promoting a strong health, safety and environmental cultureSupervise subcontractors, engineers and the workforce, ensuring approved RAMS and construction methods are followedReview and verify setting out for accuracy and complianceMentor engineers on material testing, quality records, task briefings and inspectionsMaintain high standards of engineering records, including survey documentation and site diariesAttend and, where required, chair coordination meetings with stakeholders, subcontractors and internal teamsCheck that drawings, specifications and 3D model information are complete and suitable for construction, raising RFIs promptly to avoid delaysEnsure ITPs are completed and digitally recorded in line with contractual requirementsDevelop and monitor short-term programmes (2-4 weeks) with subcontractors and suppliersMonitor site compliance with company policies and statutory requirements, promptly addressing unsafe conditions or non-conformancesTrack plant, labour, material usage and programme performancePrepare material take-offs, requisitions and procurement requirements, and manage material orders and recordsProduce and review construction documentation, including method statements, ITPs, material approval requests and task briefingsPrepare temporary works design briefs and inspect temporary works, subject to appropriate training and authorisationBuild strong relationships with clients, designers, subcontractors and the wider supply chainCommunicate key construction information clearly to supervisors, foremen and operativesKeep accurate records of instructions, variations and additional works, with supporting resource recordsEnsure delivery tickets are correctly coded and submittedSkills and Experience
Proven supervisory or engineering management experience in civil engineering, infrastructure or utility constructionStrong understanding of construction methodologies and civil engineering best practiceCommercial awareness, with an understanding of contract administration and project controlsExperience in a cost-conscious environment, with responsibility for programme, resource and budget performanceEffective people management and leadership skillsExperience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple work packagesStrong stakeholder management across clients, designers, suppliers and regulatory bodiesExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver practical construction solutionsStrong communication skills, with the confidence to engage at all levelsProficient in Microsoft Office and construction-related digital systemsValid CSCS cardDesirable
