Our client is a leading Consultancy who work on transformative infrastructure programmes that improve lives, support communities, and reduce carbon emissions. They are recruiting for Commercial Lead to drive strategy, ensure delivery excellence, and inspire change across water and environmental sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and developing a high performing commercial and cost management team across multi million pound programmes.Providing strategic commercial oversight from procurement through to contract close out.Reviewing tender packs, identifying risks, and shaping commercially robust bid strategies.Developing commercial solutions that support work winning and strengthen client propositions.Overseeing contract execution, supplier performance, and commercial risk mitigation.Ensuring compliance with NEC3/4, FIDIC, UK legislation, and regulatory frameworks.Guiding procurement strategy, contract preparation, and commercial governance.Leading cost planning, estimating, benchmarking, and value management activities.Managing change control, valuations, cost variances, and final account negotiations.Acting as a trusted commercial partner to clients, consultants, regulators, and delivery teams.Driving continuous improvement across commercial processes, tools, and reporting.Supporting business growth by contributing commercial insight to bids and proposals.Requirements
Strong financial modelling skills and commercial acumen.Excellent client facing and supply chain engagement abilities.Experience managing commercial teams and mentoring junior professionals.Background in Water, Environment, Defence, or Nuclear sectors.Strong understanding of CDM regulations and risk management.NEC3/4 expertise (Options A, C, E essential).Experience with ECI/ESI in design & build programmes.Valid CSCS card (Water Hygiene Card desirable).Full right to work in the UK. Our client who is a leading global consultancy with an enviable track record of delivering complex infrastructure programmes across the UK and internationally. They are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Lead to join their growing water infrastructure team based in Tamworth.
This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the commercial function on a high-profile water sector programme. You will play a pivotal role in driving commercial performance, managing risk, and ensuring the successful delivery of contracts from procurement through to final account.
Whilst experience in the water sector would be an advantage, it is not essential. Our client is particularly keen to attract candidates with a strong civils background who can bring transferable commercial expertise to the team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all commercial activities across the programme, including contract administration, procurement, and cost managementManage and mentor a team of commercial staff, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvementProvide commercial strategy and guidance to the project leadership teamOversee the preparation and submission of valuations, variations, claims, and final accountsManage contract risk and opportunity, proactively identifying and resolving commercial issuesEnsure contractual compliance across the supply chain, including subcontract managementDevelop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the primary commercial point of contactProduce accurate and timely commercial reports, forecasts, and cost plans for senior stakeholdersCollaborate closely with project delivery, planning, and legal teams to ensure integrated commercial managementSupport dispute resolution and negotiation processes where requiredEssential Requirements
Proven track record as a Commercial Lead, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or equivalent within the civil engineering or infrastructure sectorStrong experience managing NEC or other standard form contracts in a principal contractor or consultant capacityDemonstrated ability to lead and develop commercial teamsExcellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage at senior levelStrong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilitiesA degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related disciplineMRICS, MCIOB, or working towards a relevant professional qualification (desirable)Desirable Experience
Experience working on water, utilities, or regulated infrastructure programmesFamiliarity with AMP (Asset Management Plan) frameworks or Ofwat regulatory environmentExperience working within a consultancy or client-side environmentWhat's on Offer
