HSE Lead (Health, Safety & Environment)

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced HSE Lead to support the successful delivery of a major construction project within a mission-critical, industrial, pharmaceutical, energy, or data centre environment.

The HSE Lead will be responsible for driving the project's health, safety, and environmental strategy, ensuring compliance with Danish legislation, client standards, and project-specific requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, contractors, subcontractors, and client representatives to promote a strong safety culture and ensure all activities are executed safely and efficiently.

Previous experience within Data Centres, Pharmaceutical, Industrial, Energy, Manufacturing, Process Plant, EPC, or Mission Critical Construction environments is highly desirable.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage all health, safety, and environmental activities across the project.Develop, implement, and maintain project HSE plans, procedures, and initiatives.Ensure compliance with Danish HSE legislation, project requirements, and client standards.Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations.Support contractors and subcontractors in meeting HSE expectations and performance targets.Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and engagement initiatives.Facilitate toolbox talks, safety briefings, and HSE training sessions.Monitor and report HSE performance metrics and KPIs.Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, implementing corrective actions where required.Coordinate risk assessments, method statement reviews, and permit-to-work activities.Participate in project meetings and provide HSE guidance to project stakeholders.Ensure environmental compliance and support sustainability initiatives where applicable.Drive continuous improvement in HSE performance throughout the project lifecycle.Support commissioning and project handover activities from an HSE perspective.Required ExperienceProven experience as an HSE Lead, HSE Manager, EHS Manager, Health & Safety Manager, or Senior HSE Advisor on major construction projects.Strong experience within Data Centres, Mission Critical Facilities, Pharmaceutical, Industrial, Energy, Manufacturing, EPC, or Process Plant environments.Experience managing HSE performance across multiple contractors and subcontractors.In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations, risk management, and incident investigation.Experience conducting site audits, inspections, and safety improvement initiatives.Demonstrated ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.Strong knowledge of permit-to-work systems, high-risk activities, and contractor management.Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in fast-paced, complex construction environments.Desirable ExperienceData Centre construction experience.Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences project experience.EPC or large-scale industrial construction experience.Experience with electrical and mechanical installation activities.Knowledge of commissioning, start-up, and handover processes.Experience working within multinational project teams.Familiarity with behavioral safety programmes and safety culture initiatives.QualificationsDegree, Diploma, NEBOSH, or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent HSE qualification.IOSH Managing Safely, GradIOSH, CertIOSH, or equivalent professional certification.Relevant Danish or European health and safety qualifications would be advantageous.Valid driving licence and ability to travel to project sites as required.Right to work within the EU.
