Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mission Critical Data Centers - Remote
Client
A high-growth, owner-operator data center developer with an ambitious mission to deploy gigawatt-scale AI compute infrastructure across North America and beyond. The firm acquires power, designs, builds, and operates its own data centers, with a fully integrated team spanning hardware, software, and engineering. They are moving at exceptional speed and scale, with a pipeline targeting tens of gigawatts of capacity this decade.
Job Role
An opportunity to own mechanical systems end-to-end for AI-optimised, high-density data centers, from early concept and analytical modelling through to final build and deployment. You'll lead the design and evolution of mechanical and cooling systems as the firm scales to multiple gigawatts, develop modular mechanical templates for rapid global deployment, and serve as the technical interface between internal teams and external consultants. This is a full-ownership role for an engineer who thrives in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment.
Requirements
- Own mechanical design from concept and analytical modelling through to build and deployment for high-density data center projects
- Lead the design and ongoing evolution of mechanical and cooling systems at scale
- Develop and maintain modular mechanical templates engineered for rapid, repeatable global deployment
- Act as the primary technical interface between internal teams and external MEP consultants, ensuring designs remain aligned with high-density cooling and power requirements
- Design with supply chain awareness and constructability in mind to enable fast, clean deployment
Qualifications
- Proven ownership of mechanical design for data centers or high-density facilities from concept through build
- Strong command of cooling system design for AI-class density including chilled water, CDUs, and direct liquid cooling; ability to design in modular, repeatable templates
- Experience managing external consultants and bridging technical design to internal strategy
- PE licence preferred; direct-to-chip or liquid cooling design experience a plus
- Familiarity with modular or prefab template programmes and CFD tools (6SigmaET, Icepak) a plus
- Knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9 beneficial
