Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mission Critical Data Centers
Client
A full-service, integrated design and construction firm operating across North America, with a strong track record in mission critical, industrial, and life sciences projects. The firm operates a dedicated architecture, engineering, and design practice embedded within a wider development and construction group, enabling a fully integrated design-build delivery model. They are recognised as a top-tier data center contractor and design-build firm, known for fast-track delivery of technically complex, high-profile projects.
Job Role
A senior-level opportunity to lead the mechanical design of mission critical facilities including data centers and advanced manufacturing environments. You'll serve as the technical authority on HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems, managing projects from concept through commissioning while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating across disciplines. This is a hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced, design-build environment, with direct accountability for design quality, project delivery, and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- Lead mechanical design and engineering of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related building systems for mission critical and high-reliability facilities
- Perform detailed mechanical system calculations and analyses, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and best practices
- Review and approve mechanical drawings, specifications, and submittals for quality and accuracy
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources; coordinate across all engineering disciplines
- Oversee commissioning, testing, and start-up of mechanical systems to ensure proper operation
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
- Develop and present technical reports, specifications, and design documentation for clients and stakeholders
- Collaborate with project managers to define scope, schedule, and deliverables in line with client expectations
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving design software
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) from an ABET-accredited institution required
- Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on mission critical projects (data centers, high-tech manufacturing, or similar)
- PE licence required for document sealing, with ability to obtain licensure across multiple states
- Strong experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection systems, and building energy management
- Proficiency in mechanical design software including AutoCAD, Revit, Trane, Carrier, or similar tools
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, and IMC
- Experience in a design-build or IPD environment a plus
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
