HSE Specialist

Hyperscale Data Centre Project | Denmark

Contract Type: Freelance / Contract Duration: 8-12 Months (Potential Extension) Location: Denmark
We are supporting the delivery of a major hyperscale data centre development in Denmark and are actively seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to join the project team.
This position offers the opportunity to work on one of Europe's most complex critical infrastructure projects, supporting large-scale construction activities across steel erection, mechanical installation, and construction operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving a positive safety culture and ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are consistently maintained.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for professionals who have proven experience within fast-paced construction environments and who understand the unique challenges associated with delivering mission-critical facilities.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Previous experience working on a Hyperscale Data Centre project.
  • Experience supporting majorCritical Infrastructure Projects, including:
    • Data Centres
    • Pharmaceutical Facilities
    • Semiconductor Facilities
    • Power Generation Projects
    • Renewable Energy Projects
    • Advanced Manufacturing Facilities
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing steel fabrication and steel erection activities.
  • Experience monitoring work at height, temporary works, lifting operations, rigging activities, and structural steel installation.
  • Strong understanding of contractor management and subcontractor oversight.
  • Experience working with multinational construction teams.
  • Ability to work independently while influencing project stakeholders at all levels.

Essential Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Recognised auditing qualification is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of Danish and European HSE legislation.
  • Fluent English communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine HSE inspections and audits across construction work fronts.
  • Review and verify Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Support permit-to-work activities.
  • Monitor high-risk activities including:
    • Steel erection
    • Hot works
    • Lifting operations
    • Confined space entry
    • Excavations
    • Electrical works
    • Work at height
  • Participate in daily planning and coordination meetings.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and behavioural observations.
  • Track corrective actions and ensure close-out of identified issues.
  • Support emergency response planning and drills.
  • Collaborate with construction, quality, and commissioning teams.

Desired Experience

Candidates with experience on projects delivered for hyperscale clients such as Microsoft, Google, AWS, Meta, or other major cloud infrastructure providers will be viewed favourably.
Experience working for principal contractors, EPC contractors, steel erection contractors, or mechanical construction contractors within mission-critical environments is highly desirable.
