Data Centre HSE Specialist (Freelance Contract)

We are currently seeking an experienced Data Centre HSE Specialist to support the delivery of a major data centre and critical infrastructure project in Denmark.
This role is ideally suited to a hands-on HSE professional with strong site-based experience within complex construction, industrial, or mission-critical environments. Preference will be given to local Danish candidates and professionals currently based in the Nordic region.
Candidates with practical experience in steel erection, structural steel, fabrication, mechanical installation, and process environments will be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of the project's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programme.
- Conduct daily site inspections and proactively identify hazards and unsafe behaviours.
- Perform risk assessments, method statement reviews, and permit-to-work verification.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Danish HSE regulations, project requirements, and client standards.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor safety performance across multiple work fronts.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Support lifting operations, steel erection activities, work at height, confined space work, and mechanical installations.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and safety reviews with clients and project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate HSE documentation, records, and performance reporting.
- Promote a positive safety culture and challenge unsafe behaviours where necessary.
Required Experience
- Proven experience as an HSE Specialist, HSE Advisor, HSE Coordinator, Safety Officer, EHS Specialist, or similar position.
- Experience working on Data Centre, Critical Infrastructure, Industrial, Power, Energy, Pharmaceutical, or Process Plant projects.
- Strong understanding of construction safety and contractor management.
- Direct exposure to steel erection, structural steel installation, fabrication, rigging, lifting operations, and heavy industrial activities.
- Familiarity with permit-to-work systems, risk management processes, and behavioural safety programmes.
- Knowledge of Danish or European HSE legislation and industry best practices.
- Ability to work independently while supporting both project management and site operations teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Fluent English is essential; Danish is highly advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma.
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
- Relevant Health & Safety certifications recognised within the EU.
- First Aid and incident investigation training.
- Experience supporting projects valued above €100 million is advantageous.
- Previous experience in hyperscale data centre construction is highly desirable.
