Overview
A leading HVAC and building services specialist is seeking an experienced Commissioning Supervisor to oversee onsite commissioning activities across a range of mechanical and HVAC projects. This role is responsible for leading commissioning teams, coordinating testing and balancing activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards, and acting as the key onsite interface between clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in HVAC commissioning, Testing & Balancing (TAB), or technical site supervision (typically 3+ years)
- Strong knowledge of ventilation, chilled water, hot water, and mechanical services systems
- Experience supervising commissioning teams on live construction projects
- Strong understanding of commissioning procedures, functional testing, and system verification
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and control sequences
- Excellent leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with clients, contractors, and project teams
- Experience producing commissioning reports, documentation, and certification records
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and commissioning documentation tools
- Full UK/EU driving licence and willingness to travel
Desirable Skills
- Commissioning certifications such as CxA, TAB Certification, or similar industry qualifications
- Experience within cleanroom, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or critical environment projects
- Health & Safety qualifications including CSCS, Safe Pass, or equivalent
- Experience working on large-scale mechanical infrastructure or mission-critical projects
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise onsite HVAC commissioning activities including air and hydronic Testing & Balancing (TAB)
- Coordinate commissioning teams, allocate workloads, and monitor progress against programme requirements
- Develop and implement commissioning plans and procedures in accordance with project specifications and industry standards
- Conduct functional testing, performance verification, and system validation activities
- Review HVAC drawings, specifications, and controls documentation to ensure compliance with design intent
- Identify, track, and manage defects, deficiencies, and corrective actions through to resolution
- Prepare and review commissioning reports, test sheets, certification records, and handover documentation
- Maintain and promote a strong health & safety culture across all commissioning activities
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to coordinate commissioning works
- Attend project meetings and support commissioning planning, sequencing, and resource allocation
- Ensure systems are fully tested, commissioned, and ready for client handover
