Project Manager
Birmingham
Offering up to £85,000 depending on experience

About the role

We're supporting a major UK infrastructure programme and are looking for an experienced Fit-Out Project Manager to join a major Tier One Civil engineering contractor. This role holds responsibility for the coordination, design validation, and procurement of station fit-out and architectural packages, playing a central part in delivering complex, high-profile station environments to the highest standard.

Suited to a project manager with a strong main contractor background who has hands-on experience across architectural and fit-out workstreams.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage specific station packages including external works, architecture, and fit-out, from planning through to completion.
  • Lead design validation activities, ensuring all packages are buildable, coordinated, and issued in accordance with the programme.
  • Manage procurement activities for fit-out and architectural subcontract packages, including scope definition, tender evaluation, and contract award.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance across fit-out workstreams, monitoring progress against programme, cost, and quality benchmarks.
  • Report into the Senior Project Manager, providing regular updates on package status, risk, and commercial exposure.
  • Manage design interfaces between fit-out, architectural, and civils workstreams, resolving clashes and escalating as required.
  • Ensure compliance with client technical standards, the project Design Management Plan, and all relevant work instructions.
  • Maintain close liaison with the design team, client, and Principal Designer to ensure alignment throughout delivery.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering station fit-out, architectural, or external works packages on major construction or infrastructure programmes.
  • Main contractor background is essential; subcontractor-only experience is not suitable unless combined with main contractor delivery experience.
  • Strong understanding of design validation, IFC processes, and the coordination of multi-discipline packages in a live programme environment.
  • Demonstrable experience managing subcontractors and specialist suppliers to programme and budget.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively at senior level.
  • Degree-level qualification in construction, engineering, or a related discipline (or demonstrable equivalent experience).
  • Experience on HS2, Crossrail, Network Rail, or comparable regulated programmes is highly advantageous.

If you have the experience and drive to lead fit-out delivery on one of the UK's most landmark infrastructure projects, we'd like to hear from you. Please submit your CV or feel free to contact me for a confidential conversation on [email protected] or 02036573167.
