Our client is one of the fastest growing Principal Data Centre Contractor in Europe only dedicated to the Data Centre sector, offering full turnkey solutions from design through to construction and commissioning.

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Project Manager to join their team on Europe's largest data centre campus in Portugal.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, organising, leading, coordinating, and controlling all aspects of Mechanical project delivery - ensuring quality, safety, and performance standards are consistently met.

Responsibilities

Manage and oversee all aspects of the mechanical scope of works, ensuring delivery in line with project specifications, schedule, and budget.Analyse, track, and manage critical milestone activities to prevent schedule delays.Review construction proposals, including scope and cost assessments.Lead and mentor project teams, including engineers, package managers, supervisors and foremen.Engage with project stakeholders, including clients, to ensure clear communication and alignment on goals.Liaise with design teams and subcontractors to ensure project delivery within scope, budget, and timeline.Take a leading role in driving productivity through effective weekly and daily work plans.Plan and coordinate day-to-day site operations in conjunction with package managers.Oversee and manage subcontractor performance, tracking progress against schedule and manpower requirements.Coordinate activities with subcontractors operating in shared work areas to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient progress.Prepare comprehensive weekly reports including:

o Incident/Accident reports

o Schedule updates (Planned vs. Actual)

o 12 week lookahead

o Industrial relations issues

o Procurement forecast (including long-lead items)

o Weekly variation log (issued to the Quantity Surveyor)

o Notification of any delays, disruptions, or risks to planned activities

Prepare and issue weekly progress reports, consolidating supervisor updates and highlighting progress, risks, and material delivery issues.Conduct weekly commercial meetings with the commercial team to capture all variations and ensure client costs are updated.Promote and manage site safety, working closely with the Mechanical Package Manager and Safety Advisor.Drive a strong Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) culture across the project team.Develop, implement, and maintain company procedures in collaboration with package managers.Manage and control change management processes (cost and programme impacts).RequirementsMinimum 10 years' experience in managing large-scale Mechanical projects such as commercial offices, retail, hotels, schools, or data centres.Data centre project experience is highly desirable.Trade or Engineering qualification preferred, with recent experience in managing major electrical contracts.Proven experience in Mechanical Project Management, with the ability to effectively control scope, schedule, and budget.Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing large installation projects, ideally within data centre delivery or other large-scale mechanical environments.Strong technical understanding of mechanical design and build systems.Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and associated services.Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.Ability to drive progress and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams

The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established M&E contractor, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to support the successful delivery of major data centre and mission-critical projects across London.

This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most technically challenging projects in the sector, overseeing mechanical installations from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover.

Key ResponsibilitiesManage mechanical packages on data centre and mission-critical projects from conception to completion.Coordinate mechanical design, procurement and installation activities.Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.Manage subcontractors, suppliers, commissioning engineers and site teams.Oversee the installation of critical cooling and mechanical infrastructure.Monitor project costs, programme performance and resource requirements.Lead progress meetings with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.Manage variations, change control and commercial reporting.Ensure compliance with project specifications, regulations and company procedures.Oversee testing, commissioning and integrated systems testing activities.Identify and manage project risks throughout the project lifecycle.Produce regular progress and financial reports.Ensure successful project handover and client acceptance.Candidate RequirementsProven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager within an M&E Contractor or Building Services environment.Experience delivering data centre, mission-critical, pharmaceutical or technically complex projects.Strong technical knowledge of:Chilled Water SystemsHVAC SystemsCRAH & CRAC UnitsVentilation SystemsMechanical Pipework SystemsBuilding Management Systems (BMS)Critical Cooling InfrastructureExperience managing projects valued from £5m+.Strong understanding of commissioning and handover within critical environments.Excellent commercial awareness and contractual understanding.Strong leadership and communication skills.QualificationsHNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.SMSTS.CSCS Black Card (or equivalent).First Aid (desirable).IOSH or NEBOSH (desirable).BenefitsSalary up to £120,000.Car allowance.Annual bonus.Pension scheme.Private medical insurance.Ongoing training and development.Clear progression opportunities.Opportunity to work on landmark data centre projects across London and the South East.
