Senior Mechanical Engineer - Data Centers

📍 Chicago, IL

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for designing mission-critical facilities? We are partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of complex data center and critical infrastructure projects across North America and beyond.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected engineering team, working on large-scale data center projects from concept through construction while helping to mentor and develop the next generation of engineers.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of mission-critical projects. You will work closely with clients, contractors, architects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop innovative and reliable mechanical solutions for data center environments.

You will also provide technical leadership, oversee project delivery, and support the development of junior engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical design of critical facilities and data center projects.Develop project specifications, system narratives, and mechanical system layouts.Establish design standards, project criteria, and engineering approaches.Perform engineering analysis and evaluate mechanical system options.Coordinate designs across multiple disciplines and project stakeholders.Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, architects, and consultants.Oversee project documentation and technical deliverables.Manage construction administration activities, including: Field reportsRFIsBulletinsAddendaTechnical reviewsSupport quality assurance and quality control processes.Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams.Conduct employee performance reviews and support staff development.Assist with technical training initiatives and knowledge sharing.Participate in engineering leadership and continuous improvement programs.Contribute to the successful delivery of complex mission-critical projects from concept through construction.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.Minimum 8+ years of experience within an MEP consulting engineering environment.Proven experience working on data center, critical facilities, or mission-critical projects.Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.Professional Engineer (PE) license required.Strong hands-on mechanical design experience.Advanced proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.Strong understanding of HVAC, cooling, and mechanical systems used within critical environments.Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.Excellent communication and client-facing skills.Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
